2 Rohingya among 4 criminals killed in gunfights

4 criminals, including 2 Rohingya, were killed in individual gunfights in Cox’s Bazar, Joypurhat and Mymensingh districts early Friday (Oct 18).

2 Rohingyas were killed in a gunfight between members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and suspected drug peddlers at Hoaikong along the Naf River in Teknaf upazila (Cox’s Bazar), .

BGB Commanding officer Foysal Hasan told that the victims were identified as Md. Abul Hashem (26), son of Sultan Ahmed and Nur Kamal (20), son of Abu Siddique of Kutupalong camp in Ukhyia upazila.

Commanding officer of BGB-2 Lieutenant Colonel Md Foysal Hasan Khan said to media that acting on secret information that some drug peddlers gathered along the Naf river for smuggling Yaba, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area.

Foysal said that Later, when the BGB men noticed that some 5-6 people were crossing the river by a speed-boat, feeling danger, the criminals fired gunshots targeting the BGB men forcing them to fire back in self defense that triggered the gunfight, and after the gunfight, the BGB men arrested two people with bullet wounds and took them to a local hospital where doctors declared them dead.

He said that our 3 BGB men were injured in the gunfight, and more than 50,000 Yaba tablets, one gun, three bullets and two sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.

On the other hand, Abdul Motaleb member of an inter district bandit gang, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with DB police at Rasulpur in Gafargaon upazila, Mymensingh.

The victim was identified as Abdul Motaleb (44), son of Kotu Sheikh of Gafargaon Upazila, Mymensingh.

Police informed that Motaleb was wanted in seven robbery cases.

Officer in charge of DB police Shah Kamal Akond told that that a group of robbers were preparing to commit robbery, and a team DB police conducted a drive in the area around 1am

He said that as police confronted the criminals, they opened fire on police fearing danger which prompted police to take action that triggered the ‘gunfight’, leaving Motaleb injured.Police was taken to local hospital where doctors declared him dead. And 1 pipegun, 15 cartridges, 20 shells of bullets were recovered from the spot.

Police said that a suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Bhutgari village in Panchbibi upazila, Joypurhat

The deceased was identified as Md Aminul Islam alias Casset (45), son of Shahabul Islam of Piara village in Pancihbibi upazil, Joypurhat.

He was wanted in eight criminal cases including that of abduction.
