Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS for the term 2021-2023.
Bangladesh was elected with 53 votes out of 54 votes. Only one member state abstained from voting in the election.
The newly-elected executive board will charge on January 01, 2021.
This information was given in a notification sent from the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations on Tuesday (Sept 15).
The election of the eight bodies of the 54-member UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was held on Monday (September 14th) by direct vote at the UN headquarters.
The statement further said that the victory is a testament to the strong legacy, trust and confidence that Bangladesh has gained due to the relentless progress of Bangladesh in socio-economic development under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and working closely with UN agencies and its executive boards.
Bangladesh is still a member of the Executive Board of UNICEF and UN Women. Ambassador Rabab Fatima, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, is currently chairing the Executive Board of UNICEF.
