Job seekers under the banner of Sarbadaliya Chhatra Oikya Parishad staged demonstrations in Dhaka city’s Nilkhet intersection Sunday morning demanding an extension of age limit to apply for government jobs.
When they gathered there around 10.30 am to press home their various demands including extension of age limit, police asked them to leave the place.
According to reports, as the job seekers did not move, police chased them and charged baton to disperse them.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of New Market police station (Acting) Sam Qayyum said to media that the government has imposed restriction on any kind of gathering and rallies to contain the spread of Covid-19.
He said, we gave them 45 minutes to leave the road but they didn’t listen to us. So, we were forced to take action to reduce the sufferings of people.
According to reports, Being dispersed by police from Nilkhet intersection, they staged another rally at the foot of Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University’s TSC area.
