At least three people were killed after their car was hit by a speeding train at a soulless level crossing in Dinajpur.
The tragic accident took place in the Ghoraghat area under the district’s Birampur Upazila during the early hours of Wednesday, February 2.
One of the deceased was identified as Hafizur Rahman, son of Halim Shah of Parbatipur Upazila of Dinajpur. The identity of the other two were not known immediately, confirmed Sumon Kumar Mahanta, officer-in-charge of Birampur police station.
He said that Dinajpur-bound Kurigram Express crashed into the private car around 6:50 am, leaving the three occupants, including its driver, dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to the local hospital morgue.
“However, the identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained,” the OC said.
Citing eyewitnesses, the OC said the private car was heading towards Hili in Hakimpur Upazila of Dinajpur from Parbatipur Upazila this morning.
Three people died on the spot when the train hit the vehicle at the level crossing. Locals said the gatekeeper was not present at the crossing, the OC added.
