A three-member ministerial team, led by Education Minister Dipu Moni, arrived in Sylhet Friday morning to hold talks with the protesting students of the coveted Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
The SUST students resumed their protests Wednesday, after their demand for the removal of Vice-Chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed was not met.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni and Deputy Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel reached Sylhet this morning.
They landed at Osmani International Airport around 8:50 am, reports our local correspondent.
The education minister is scheduled to go to SUST around 3:30 pm, according to the tour schedule signed by Abu Ali Md Sajjad Hosen, personal secretary of Dipu Moni.
She will take part in discussions with students, teachers and others from 4-7 pm, read the schedule.
Meanwhile, the education minister is set to meet a delegation of the protesting students around 1:30 pm at the Sylhet Circuit House before visiting SUST, said Yasir Sarkar, a spokesman for the agitating students.
“An 11-member delegation will go to Sylhet Circuit House to greet the education minister. There will be a detailed discussion with her on overall issue. Then the education minister will come to SUST and talk to students,” the spokesperson said.
Students of SUST resumed their protest on Wednesday demanding the resignation of the university’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed.
