Ilias Kanchan’s son slams false death rumors

Popular actor and “Nirapad Sarak Chai” founder Ilias Kanchan has been suffering from a brain tumor for the past seven months and is currently undergoing treatment in London. However, in the last two days, false rumors about his death have spread across social media, prompting his son, Mirajul Moin Joy, to urge everyone not to believe such misinformation.
In a statement on Friday, Joy said, “My father is unwell and under regular treatment. Please do not pay attention to any rumors. I request everyone, both at home and abroad, to pray for my father’s quick recovery.”
He added, “Since the news of my father’s illness became public, people from Bangladesh and abroad — including ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’ members, fans, and well-wishers — have been praying sincerely. Many have even arranged special prayers after Friday prayers. On behalf of our family, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude and love to everyone.”
Expressing frustration at certain online users, Joy continued, “Unfortunately, some YouTubers and Facebook users are spreading misleading videos just for views. These actions hurt public sentiment and cause pain to my father’s fans. We strongly condemn such behavior.”
Currently, Ilias Kanchan is being treated at Harley Street Clinic in London. In August, he underwent brain surgery at Wellington Hospital, where part of the tumor was removed. However, doctors could not remove it completely due to health risks. He is now receiving radiation and chemotherapy, known as “target therapy.”
According to family sources, the therapy will continue five days a week for six weeks, followed by a four-week observation period under medical supervision.
Last Sunday afternoon, the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association held a special prayer gathering at its FDC office. Organized by association president Misha Sawdagor, the prayer event saw fellow artists wishing for Ilias Kanchan’s recovery and return to good health.
Misha Sawdagor said, “Ilias Kanchan is not only a shining star of our film industry but also a conscious citizen, social activist, and inspiration to us all. His illness has deeply saddened us. Today (October 5), we prayed together for his swift recovery. We hope he returns to normal life soon and resumes work again.”
