Bangladesh cricket legend Mushfiqur Rahim marked a historic milestone by scoring a century on his 100th Test during the second match against Ireland at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
The right-handed batsman, who was unbeaten and just one run shy of reaching triple figures at the end of the first day, achieved the feat early in the second day’s play. He became only the 11th cricketer in history to score a century in their 100th Test, registering his 13th career Test century at the age of 38.

Mushfiqur displayed calm and composure against spinner Matthew Humphreys in the first over of the day, successfully defending a maiden over. He finally reached the milestone on the third ball of the second over, bowled by pacer Jordan Neill.

The delivery was a length ball targeting the middle and leg stump; Mushfiqur shuffled across his stumps and deftly flicked it behind square for a single, sprinting to the other end. As he raised his helmet in jubilation, a thunderous cheer erupted from the crowd. He then dropped to the ground in Sajdah, celebrating his achievement. With this century, Mushfiqur equaled Mominul Haque as Bangladesh’s leading scorer in Test centuries.

Elation poured in as Mushfiqur became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to reach 100 Test matches while playing against Ireland on Wednesday. Yet, to truly cement his place in history, he aimed to produce something memorable with the bat.

Mushfiqur’s innings of 106 runs concluded when he edged a turning delivery from Humphreys, poking at it tentatively and being beaten by the extra bounce. Irish captain Andy Balbirnie leapt to his right to take a one-handed catch. The Irish skipper quickly exchanged congratulations with Mushfiqur, while Paul Stirling and other teammates also showed their respect. Bangladesh finished the day at 310 for 5 wickets, with Mushfiqur’s 214-ball innings featuring five fours.
