Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has said the army will provide full support to the Election Commission to ensure the proper conduct of the thirteenth national election.
“The country is heading toward an election, and in that election we will provide comprehensive assistance to the government,” he said.
He made the remarks on Sunday at an event held at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment, marking the occasion of Armed Forces Day.
The Army Chief said, “We will assist the Election Commission so that we can have a fair and orderly election.”
He also stated that the army will continue working for the country’s interests and the welfare of the people by following the path shown by the freedom fighters.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman said the Bangladesh Army is no longer confined to its own training activities alone. By participating in various social and nation-building activities, it has been directly and indirectly assisting the civilian administration. He also praised the professionalism of the army in peacekeeping missions.
The Army Chief added that the Bangladesh Army introduced peacetime medals in 2013. This year, too, recipients of the Army Medal, the Outstanding Service Medal, and the Distinguished Service Medal have been honored. He congratulated all the award recipients.
He further said that members of the army have long been standing beside the people and providing service during various natural disasters across the country. All of this has been possible because of the soldiers’ deep patriotism, professional competence, discipline, and dedication to duty.
Earlier, 64 army personnel were awarded medals for acts of bravery and exceptional contributions to the force, and 75 families of freedom fighters were honored. During the event, 9 individuals received the “Army Medal,” 17 received the “Outstanding Service Medal,” and 38 army personnel received the “Distinguished Service Medal” for various contributions in the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 fiscal years.
