The full verdict on the death sentences of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal for crimes against humanity in the July mass uprising has been published.
The full verdict on their death sentences was published on Wednesday. As a result, Sheikh Hasina and Kamal will have to appeal within the next 30 days.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death on November 17 in a case of crimes against humanity committed during the July coup.
The tribunal also sentenced former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death. Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who was a state witness in the case, was given a five-year prison sentence. The verdict also ordered the confiscation of all properties owned by Sheikh Hasina and Kamal in the country.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, announced the verdict.
Sheikh Hasina has been tried on charges of murder, conspiracy, incitement and high-level leadership. The five charges specifically are: provocative statements at a press conference at Ganabhaban, orders to use helicopters and lethal weapons, the killing of student Abu Sayeed in Rangpur, the killing in Chankharpool and the killing and burning of the body in Ashulia.
The court sentenced her to death on the last three charges. While she was sentenced to life imprisonment on the first two charges.
