An incident of attack, vandalism, and arson took place at the head officer of the daily Prothom Alo and the English-language daily The Daily Star, located in the capital’s Karwan Bazar.

On Thursday night (December 18), after news spread about the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha, a group of protesters gathered in Karwan Bazar around 11:30 pm. They first attacked the Prothom Alo office and later targeted the The Daily Star building. At one stage, the attackers entered the buildings, carried out extensive vandalism, and set fire to documents and furniture inside.

Upon receiving the information, multiple units of the Fire Service rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control. Later, as a large number of law enforcement personnel arrived at the site, the attackers dispersed and fled in different directions.

To ensure security, additional police and Army personnel were deployed across the entire area.
