The body of Sharif Osman Hadi, a fearless frontline activist of the July mass uprising and spokesperson of Inkilab Mancha, will be brought back to the country from Singapore this evening, Friday.
The matter was confirmed to journalists by Dr Abdul Ahad, head of the health cell of the NCP, who was also involved in Hadi’s treatment. He said Osman Hadi’s body will depart Singapore on Friday (December 19) aboard a Biman Bangladesh Airlines commercial flight at 3:50 pm local time and is expected to land in Dhaka at around 6:05 pm.
Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inkilab Mancha, passed away on Thursday night at 9:45 pm Bangladesh time while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital.
On December 12, Sharif Osman Hadi was shot by assailants while taking part in a mass outreach programme in the capital’s Bijoynagar area. He was critically injured after being shot in the head and was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Following surgery, he was admitted to a private hospital, Evercare Hospital. Later, he was airlifted to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment.
Following Hadi’s death, a special prayer has been announced for Friday, while Saturday has been declared a day of state mourning. The announcement was made by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus during a national address on Thursday night.
