27The Namaz-e-Janaza of 6 fallen Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed in a terrorist attack in Sudan were held at the Central Mosque of Dhaka Cantonment on Sunday. Later, the helicopters carrying the bodies of the soldiers left for their respective homes.
The information was given in a press release sent by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The fallen soldiers are:
Corporal Md. Masud Rana (Natore), Soldier Shamim Reza: Bir (Rajbari), Soldier Md. Mominul Islam (Kurigram), Soldier Shanto Mandal (Kurigram), Mess Waiter Mohammad Jahangir Alam (Kishoreganj), and Laundry worker Md Sabuj Mia (Gaibandha).
According to the ISPR, before the janaza, the biographies of the fallen soldiers were read out. Along with this, prayers were offered for the forgiveness of their souls. Later, they were given appropriate state honours. After that, the helicopters carrying the bodies of the soldiers left for their respective homes.
Earlier, the bodies of the six peacekeepers who were killed in the fighting reached Dhaka at 11:05 am on Saturday. Bangladesh Army Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shamim received the bodies of the peacekeepers at the airport. At this time, everyone stood and observed a minute of silence and saluted in respect.
On December 13, a separatist armed group launched a drone attack on a base of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Abyei region of Sudan. Six peacekeepers were killed. All nine injured are out of danger. Eight of them are undergoing treatment in a Kenyan hospital.
