Election Commissioner (EC) Brigadier General (retd.) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said that a joint forces' raid is being launched across the country ahead of the election.
He gave the information in advance at a meeting organized by the district administration in Cox's Bazar on Sunday.
The Election Commissioner expressed hope that the Home Ministry's circular will be issued by today. He highlighted the significant issues in that circular.
He said, "From now on, the joint forces' operation will begin across the country. A meeting has already been held at the Election Commission with all the service chiefs. All headquarters are aware of this."
The main goals of the joint force operation will be threefold. One, to recover illegal weapons. To recover the illegal weapons that are in supply ahead of the elections. To ensure that those that cannot be recovered are not used in any criminal activity.
EC Sanaullah said the second issue is to arrest the identified terrorists and bring them under the law. And third, if there is any major deviation from the code of conduct of the election-oriented party and candidate, the joint force will look into it. He also said that the committees that have routines will look into minor deviations.
Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah warned the law enforcement agencies about the Rohingya. He said, the camps must be sealed. Surveillance must also be increased at the land border and sea routes. So that criminals cannot use them to commit crimes.
