DGHS driver Malek placed on 14-day remand

A Dhaka court on Monday has placed the health directorate (DGHS) driver Abdul Malek on a 14-days remand in separate cases filed under the arms and the special powers acts.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order after Rubel, a sub-inspector of Turag Police Station and also the investigation officer of the cases, produced him before it with a 14-day remand prayer.
On the other hand, the elite force arrested Malek from Kamarpara area under Turag police station in Dhaka with a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, five bullets, and counterfeit notes worth Tk1.50 lakh.
A third class employee, Malek accumulated wealth of crores of taka by resorting to illegal means, RAB said.
Malek was allegedly involved in trading illegal firearms and fake currencies, extortion and other criminal activities in Turag area, according to the primary investigation of the battalion.
