The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has announced a ban on carrying all types of weapons and setting off fireworks during the Tazia procession organized in Chattogram city on July 6 on the occasion of the holy Ashura.
The CMP announced the ban through a public notice on Friday.

The notice said that in the past, some people participated in the Tazia procession organized with religious solemnity on the day of Ashura by carrying weapons-like objects such as axes, knives, scissors, spears, lances, swords, sticks, etc. This created a fear of public safety being disrupted, panic arose among the city residents, and sometimes undesirable situations were created.

In this context, under the power of Sections 29 and 30 of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1978, the CMP authorities have completely banned the use of any kind of sharp weapons, sticks, fireworks and crackers in the Tazia procession.

It has been reported that this ban will be in effect from the start of the procession until the end.

The police administration has called on city residents to support this decision to maintain public safety, a peaceful environment, and religious solemnity.
