The Election Commission (EC) has decided that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will not be used in any further elections. Arrangements will be made for expatriates to exercise their voting rights through postal ballots in the 13th National Parliament elections. A project will be taken up for this.
Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah informed reporters about this after the eighth commission meeting on Thursday. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin presided over the meeting. Four other election commissioners, the EC senior secretary and senior officials were present.

EC Abul Fazal said that voting will be done through postal ballots for expatriates, just as ballots were sent earlier.

He said, not only national but also local government elections will no longer use EVMs. A separate project is being done for the registration process for expatriates to vote. The final voter list will be published in early August. The cost of postal ballots has been estimated at Tk 48 crore.

The Election Commissioner said the Election Commission has moved away from proxy voting for expatriate Bangladeshis. Expatriates will vote in the next parliamentary elections. The method will be postal ballot. Postal ballot will be IT-supported. It will be implemented through a project.
