Tarique Rahman calls for building just society based on tolerance

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called on everyone to build a just society based on tolerance and self-restraint on the day of State Mourning following the tragic plane crash in Uttara.
He made the call in a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday night (July 22).
Tarique Rahman said, “During this mourning period in the nation, I call upon all pro-democracy stakeholders for calm and cohesion. We must form a society based on tolerance and restraint, and thus stop divisive confrontation or mob culture.”
In the context of the day-long violence, he said that there are worrying reports of members of certain banned student political organisation causing agitation between the public and the police and instigating violence. These groups should restrain from taking advantage of a tragic moment in Bangladesh’s history for their own gains.
“Instead, our focus should be on coming together as a nation and showing empathy and unity. Let’s pour our energy into helping to account for loved ones who have been lost and find those who are missing, ensure those injured receive the very best treatment possible, and allow a proper investigation by the authorities as to the root cause of the plane crash,” he also said.
“As our hearts go out to the innocent lives lost and the families shattered, Bangladesh must remain united and face every crisis with solidarity,” added Tarique Rahman.
