EC scuffle: NCP leader files complaint against Rumeen Farhana

NCP senior joint chief organizer Ataullah has filed a complaint against BNP International Affairs Secretary Barrister Rumin Farhana over the scuffle between the two sides at the Election Commission (EC) during the hearing of the claims and objections to the delimitation of Brahmanbaria-2 and 3 constituencies. He is the appellant in the delimitation of Brahmanbaria-3 parliamentary constituency.
Ataullah filed the complaint with the Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Office on Sunday.
He mentioned in his complaint that the Election Commission decided to redraw the boundaries of my constituency, the Brahmanbaria-3 constituency. The locals were upset when 3 unions of Bijoynagar upazila were merged into the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency. At their request and on their behalf, I filed an objection against the demarcation of the boundaries with the Election Commission. Since then, BNP leader Rumin Farhana’s cadres have been threatening me not to participate in the hearing regarding the objection.
He further wrote, “When I and my constituency representatives came to the Election Commission to attend the scheduled hearing today, your responsible officials prevented us from entering the hearing venue. Later, I was able to enter just before the hearing began. In such a situation, in the presence of you and the Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners, Rumeen Farhana’s terrorist force beat up the leaders of my constituency, including me, which has become a shameful chapter in the history of Bangladesh.”
The complaint further states that even during the regime of dictator Hasina, there is no precedent of anyone being attacked by terrorists in front of the commissioners in the Election Commission. This also proved the capacity of the current Election Commission and became a test of what role you can play in a national election. It is noted that the video footage of the incident shows that when Rumin Farhana’s terrorist cadres were attacking me and the NCP leaders, the Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners were sitting on the stage with their hands on their cheeks, unperturbed.
It further states, “In exchange for the immense sacrifice of nearly 2,000 martyrs and 30,000 injured soldiers, we have got the opportunity to build a new Bangladesh, which will be based on justice, non-discrimination, and democratic values. To fulfill that aspiration, you have taken responsibility as the secretary, and the commissioners have taken their responsibility. However, today, the activities of BNP leader Rumin Farhana and your position have surpassed the Hasina regime. This is a betrayal of the blood of martyrs.”
In the complaint, Ataullah said, “Our call to this Election Commission, which is standing on fascist black laws, is to take appropriate criminal action to quickly bring Rumin Farhana and her terrorist forces under the law, take necessary measures to establish the Election Commission as a truly people’s commission, and if you cannot remain impartial, resign if necessary and give the opportunity to competent people to carry out their duties.”
