The appointment of Advocate Md. Ruhul Amin Sikder, the Public Prosecutor (PP) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Patuakhali and a member of the district Jamaat, who was involved in a bribery case, has been cancelled.
On Sunday (August 24), a notification was issued from the ministry cancelling his appointment.

In a written complaint to the Dhaka Bar Council secretary, Judge Nilufar Shirin mentioned that PP Ruhul Amin sent a bundle of Tk 50,000 along with case documents through his housekeeper at around 9 am on Wednesday (August 20).

The complaint also states that Ruhul Amin repeatedly recommended bail in a women and child affairs case on the judge’s mobile number. He is also accused of contacting the accused in the rape case of Shaheed Jasim Uddin’s daughter.

Following this incident, the Bar Council suspended the bar certificate of Advocate Md. Ruhul Amin Sikder at an emergency meeting of the Bar Council held last Saturday (August 23) under the chairmanship of Senior Advocate Md. Asaduzzaman, Attorney General of Bangladesh and Chairman of the Bar Council.

Earlier, last Thursday (August 21), the District Bar Association convened an emergency meeting. The meeting unanimously recommended suspending his primary membership and issuing a show-cause notice, as well as taking departmental action. It was decided to send the written decision of the association to the concerned departments including the District Commissioner, ACC, Law Ministry and the Chief Justice’s office.

On the same night, after news broke about professional irregularities against Ruhul Amin, district and municipal Jamaat leaders held an emergency meeting. As per the decision of the meeting, an investigation committee was formed with his membership temporarily suspended. The committee was directed to submit a report within three working days, which was announced through a press release.
