“Bangladesh is fortunate to have Dr. Yunus as its Head of Government — a leader who inspires the world.” With these words, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar praised Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus.
He made the remarks on Sunday (August 25) during a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Yunus at the state guest house Jamuna.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade, youth exchanges, educational and cultural cooperation, and especially the revival of SAARC. On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Dar also conveyed greetings from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to the Chief Adviser.

Recalling past discussions with Prime Minister Sharif, Professor Yunus said, “Whenever Prime Minister Sharif and I have met, we have discussed SAARC. Our visions are aligned, and SAARC remains a top priority for both of us.”

Highlighting opportunities for cooperation and trade expansion, Ishaq Dar remarked, “Our two economies complement each other. There are many areas where we can work together.” He also praised Professor Yunus for his contributions to poverty alleviation and community development.

During his visit to Dhaka, Ishaq Dar also met with advisers responsible for energy and trade, held discussions with various government officials, and engaged with representatives of different political parties.

Emphasising the importance of reviving regional and bilateral cooperation, Professor Yunus said, “I strongly encourage SAARC, and I give the highest priority to relations with Pakistan and other SAARC nations.” He particularly stressed people-to-people connectivity and the role of the younger generation.

Acknowledging that some sensitive issues remain unresolved, Dr. Yunus also underlined the importance of cultural exchange, “When Pakistani singers perform in Bangladesh, everyone appreciates their talent. This is the spirit we must nurture.”

As the first Pakistani foreign minister to visit Bangladesh in 13 years, Ishaq Dar noted that steps are being taken to improve shipping and air connectivity. By October, Fly Jinnah will launch a direct Dhaka–Karachi flight. Additionally, after privatisation, PIA is also expected to resume direct flights on the Dhaka route.

Both leaders expressed optimism that enhanced trade, cultural exchanges, and regional cooperation would ensure stability and prosperity across South Asia. Yunus’s Special Envoy for International Affairs, Lutfey Siddiqi, was also present at the meeting.
