Chamber Court halts Ivy’s bail in 5 cases
Supreme Court’s (SC) Chamber Court has suspended the High Court order of granting bail to Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, in five separate cases.
The cases are set for a hearing before the Appellate Division on November 17.
The stay order came on Wednesday, following a petition filed with the Chamber Judge Court of the Appellate Division.
Senior lawyer Sara Hossain represented Ivy in court, accompanied by advocate S M Hridoy Rahman and others.
Earlier, a High Court bench comprising Justice A S M Abdul Mobin and Justice Saghir Hossain had granted Ivy bail in five cases, declaring the rule issued in this regard as valid.
On May 9, Ivy was arrested from her residence at Deovog in Narayanganj, in connection with a murder case.
She was later produced before a court, which ordered her to be sent to jail.
Subsequently, on May 27, after completing a two-day remand in the Minarul murder case, the court again ordered her to be sent to prison.
Ivy has also been shown arrested in multiple cases filed over the anti-discrimination student movement, including three murder and two attempted murder cases stemming from those incidents.
