Several private universities have temporarily suspended in-person classes as a security precaution in the wake of the ongoing political unrest across the country, the Awami League’s ‘Dhaka Lockdown’ programme, and incidents of arson and violence in various places.
Among them, North South University (NSU), East West University (EWU), World University of Bangladesh (WUB), and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) have decided to conduct classes online on November 12 and 13.

Although the universities have not officially stated the reason for the decision, it is said to have been taken into consideration the recent security situation and the fear of disruption of law and order.

East West University announced in a statement on November 11 that, due to unavoidable circumstances, all classes on November 12 and 13 will be held online. No exams will be conducted during this time, and officials and employees will also work from home on November 13.

World University of Bangladesh has decided to conduct all classes online and suspend bus services from November 12 until further notice.

North South University has announced that all classes on November 13 will be held online. Similarly, ULAB has also announced the suspension of its bus services.

Meanwhile, in the past few days, several buses have been set on fire in various places, including Dhaka, Gazipur, Ashulia, and Mymensingh. Among them, a bus of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology was also set on fire. Last night and early morning, miscreants set fire to at least four buses parked in Kashimpur, Sreepur, and Ashulia areas of Gazipur.

One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a bus arson attack in Mymensingh on November 11. There were also reports of cocktail and petrol bomb explosions in Dhaka and the surrounding areas.

The government has deployed 14 platoons of BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) in Dhaka and surrounding districts to keep the situation under control.
