Hadi’s body reaches DU after Namaz-e-Janaza
After the Namaz-e-Janaza at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building, the body of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Moncho, has arrived at the University of Dhaka (DU), where he will be buried beside the grave of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Osman Hadi’s body reached the Nazrul Memorial around 3:00 pm on Saturday (December 20).
On the spot, it was seen that a strong presence of law enforcement personnel, including members of the BGB, police, and SWAT, was surrounding Nazrul’s mausoleum. Under tight security, the body entered the mausoleum at 3:05 pm. At that time, the general public and journalists were barred from entering, while a limited number of volunteers, including those affiliated with the Inqilab Moncho, were allowed access.
After the body arrived, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Jaber said, “We will all exercise patience. Under no circumstances will we break the barricades to enter. We want to bury brother Hadi in an orderly and disciplined manner. If we announce any programme, we will certainly inform you.”
Meanwhile, in the interest of overall security, a decision has been taken to close the entry points to the university campus. The university administration has expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to the public’s normal movement.
Md Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DMP’s Ramna Division, said that adequate security measures have been put in place across Dhaka University until the burial process of Osman Hadi is completed.
Earlier, at 2:30 pm, Hadi’s Namaz-e-Janaza was held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building with the participation of hundreds of thousands of people. The prayer was led by his elder brother, Abu Bakar Siddique. Among those present were Chief Adviser Dr Yunus, members of the advisory council, Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army General Waker-Uz-Zaman, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, its Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice President Shadik Kayem, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib, and other top leaders of various political parties.
At the event, Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain read out Hadi’s life history. On behalf of the family, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber addressed the gathering.
Announcing a 24-hour ultimatum, Abdullah Al Jaber said that within the next 24 hours, Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant in charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Md Khoda Bakhsh, must disclose what steps they have taken to arrest Hadi’s killers. If they fail to do so, they should be prepared to resign.
