The driver of the Meghla Paribahan bus, which hit and killed two pedestrians in Gulistan yesterday, January 8, had been driving the bus with a light vehicle license for around two years.

Khandaker Al Moin, Rab’s legal and media wing director, told a press conference today, January 9, after a team of Rab-3 arrested the driver, Rakib Sharif (25), in the Wari area of the capital last night.

Rakib was appointed by the bus owner on a daily basis and that’s why he used to drive recklessly to make as many trips as possible in a day, Moin said.

He had to pay the owner Tk 2,250 daily, the Rab official said.

Rakib told Rab that he lost control over the steering when the bus was plying on the ramp of Mayor Hanif flyover just before the toll plaza due to speed and brake failure, Moin added.

Replying to query at the briefing, the Rab director said they interrogated the bus owner.

“The driver has been made the lone accused in the case filed with Wari Police Station. While probing, if the investigation officer finds any irresponsibility of the bus owner and helper, he will definitely take necessary action against them,” Moin said.
