July massacre: Order on indictment against Hasina on July 10

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will issue an order on July 10 whether it will frame charges against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three others in the July massacre case.
Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the other two accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.
On Monday (July 7), the three-member Tribunal-1, led by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder set the date for the verdict.
State-appointed lawyer Amir Hossain appeared before the court on behalf of fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
Earlier, the tribunal set July 1 as the date for the hearing of the framing of charges against fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun in a case filed over committing crimes against humanity during the July-August uprising.
The three-member tribunal, led by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder issued the order.
On June 16, the tribunal ordered Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to appear within a week by publishing notices in two newspapers and fixed June 24 as the next hearing date for the case. The next day, on June 17, the International Crimes Tribunal issued notices ordering Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to surrender. This notice has been published in the newspaper. If they do not appear within 7 days of the notice’s publication, the trial will proceed in their absence.
The three-member tribunal, led by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder gave the order. Former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, another accused in the case, was present at the tribunal. Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam presented the prosecution’s case in court.
On June 1, the tribunal took cognizance of five charges against three people, including Sheikh Hasina. The other two accused in the case are Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Mamun. At the same time, new arrest warrants were issued against Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Kamal in this case.
That day, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, Prosecutors Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar, and Mizanul Islam read out the charges against Sheikh Hasina and the three accused in the court, which was broadcast on all media.
Earlier, a formal complaint was filed with the International Crimes Tribunal, naming former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the main accused in a case of crimes against humanity.
On May 12, officials from the investigation agency submitted an investigation report against Sheikh Hasina in the July-August massacre. The investigation report named Sheikh Hasina as the person who ordered the July massacre.
On February 18, the tribunal ordered the completion of the investigation against Sheikh Hasina in the July-August massacre by April 20. The three-member tribunal, led by ICT Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder gave the order. The court issued the order in response to a prosecution application. Additional Chief Prosecutor Mizanul Islam heard the case for the prosecution at the tribunal.
On December 17 last year, the tribunal ordered the completion of the investigation against 46 people, including Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader, in two cases within two months.
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others accused of ordering and planning the shooting and killing of unarmed students and people during the anti-discrimination student movement are on trial at the International Crimes Tribunal. The Awami League government carried out indiscriminate killings to stop the student movement. About 1,500 people were killed in this movement.
